What do you think about Microsoft's bid to acquire Yahoo!

So Microsoft has made a bid to acquire Yahoo! I say acquire because as far as I know Yahoo! wasn't for sale. If this acquisition were to go through would it stifle innovation or will it be great for all of us users.

There is no way that Microsoft buying anything is going to be "great for all users", not even "great for users". I know sever high-end developers at Y! and know that if the deal goes through (and to the best of my knowledge, MS is still pushing forward, it's not totally dead yet) that there will be a brain drain at Y! soon after it is final.

Knowing a programmer who got bought out by Microsoft and being on a site that got bought by MS (Jellyfish.com), I always heard that they bought companies to own the technology behind it -- like Jellyfish, which they apparently bought to get the search algorithm or something like that. In any case, don't they buy a company to own the technology and not have to pay to license it in any future products they may release?
